Interesting Facts: Chamomile was supposedly dedicated to the sun by the Egyptians because of its curative value in the treatment of ague. Dried chamomile flower is an age-old medicinal drug known in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Chamomile's popularity grew throughout the Middle Ages, when people turned to it as a remedy for numerous medical complaints - nausea, nervous complaints, children's ailments, skin diseases and so on. (Peter Rabbit's mother dosed Peter on chamomile after he'd over-eaten in Mr. McGregor's vegetable garden).
Medicinal Use: When heated such as in tea, German Chamomile essential oil produces chamazulene, which has strong antihistamine properties. Studies have found that chamazulene prevents the formation of leukotrienes (Much like the drug Singulair). Leukotrienes produce toxic free radicals that promote an allergic response.
Studies have shown that German Chamomile essential oil reduces the body's production of adrenocorticotropichormone (ACTH) a stress hormone. Which may be helpful in reducing stress related weight gain and regulating Cushing's disease.
German Chamomile essential oil also inhibits the protein that allow cancer cells to attach to new sites within the body. German Chamomile essential oil also prevents cancer cells from growing their own blood supply.
