It has a flavor reminiscent of thyme; a similarity due to the presence of the essential oil thymol in both. These seeds are used in Asian cooking, breads, biscuits, savory pastries, and in bean dishes. This spice closely resembles the Lovage seed. Ajowan Seed Oil reduces flatulence caused by beans when it is cooked with beans. Ajowan Seed Oil may be used as a substitute for cumin as well. It is also traditionally known as a digestive aid and an antiemetic. Ajowan Seed Oil is occasionally used commercially in soaps under the name of thymene (after the thymol has been extracted) Ibn Sina recommended using a local bath of Ajowan Seed Oil against scorpion stings Use: Ajowan oil is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, anti-nausea, and a tonic. Ajowan oil is used as a sedative or for whooping cough and toothaches in India. Ajowan oil assists bronchitis, skin disease, gas, digestive weakness, cholera, & diarrhea.
