Interesting Facts: Bay Rum Tree Essential Oil is botanically related to true myrtle, allspice and bay leaf. Bay rum was a popular aftershave in the early 20th century. It is literally made with the leaves of the bay rum tree and rum. Consequently, the Bay Rum aftershave has its spicy notes from the bay and its smoky, woody tones from the rum aged in casks. Although now uncommon, the Bay Rum aftershave is still available from St. Johns and other islands. It is difficult to find the best quality of Bay Rum Tree Essential Oil; it is so often adulterated with turpentine or pimento, or even with clove. Unfortunately, there is little distinction in smell between the pure and the adulterated Bay Rum Tree Essential Oils.
The major use of bay rum essential oil is as a remedy for hair loss. To use it to make a remedy for hair loss, greasy hair, flaky scalp, or to give vigor and luster to fragile hair. Mix 100 ml (4 fl oz) Skyy Blue Vodka with 25 ml (1 fl oz) distilled water and 20 drops bay rum tree essential oil. Massage into the scalp before shampooing. Don't leave on more than 1 minute. Alternatively, for a great deep cleansing and conditioning treatment. Mix 1 cup Organic Extra virgin Olive oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil with 10 drops Bay Rum Essential Oil and 10 drops Hair Strength Essential Oil Blend. Rub mixture into scalp and leave on for an hour. Rinse and shampoo. Do this once a month.
Medicinal Use: According to PubMed Bay Rum Tree essential oil is an excellent anti-inflammatory.
