Interesting Facts: Cherokee chewed the birch leaves for dysentery and used the birch bark tea for colds, dysentery, milky urine, and stomach ailments. Delaware used the birch bark decoction as cathartic or emetic. Iroquois used birch bark  for colds, fever, soreness, and venereal diseases. Ojibwa used birch bark as diuretic.

There is a very popular story going around that birch essential oil is not available for sale in the US and that all birch essential oil in the US is synthetic. This is simply not true and was created so a certain MLM could sell more expensive wintergreen and not have to carry a large variety of essential oils. Because the main constituent of both wintergreen and birch are largely the same most inexperienced users feel they are exactly the same thing. They are not.

Birch Essential Oil Benefits: Birch essential oil is often thought of as Wintergreen due to its smell. Birch essential oil  may benefit muscle and joint discomfort, accumulation of toxins, arthritis, cellulitis, obesity, edema, poor circulation, rheumatism, tendonitis, cramps, and hypertension. Birch essential oil is an anti-inflammatory and high in cortisone-like functions. Birch essential oil helps with dull or congested skin, eczema, thinning hair, dermatitis, sweet birch oil is great for psoriasis, gout, ulcers, broken or bruised bones. It is important to cleanse the liver often when using this oil because of toxic build-up. Birch essential oil can reduce bladder and kidney discomfort during an infection. Birch essential oil  and lemon essential oil together can drastically reduce kidney stone pain.

Birch Essential Oil Constituents: methylsalicylate, betulin and betulinic acid

Safety Information: Never take more than 2 drops Birch essential oil orally per day for no longer than a week as little as 1tbsp can be fatal in Children. Use sparingly on the skin.
