Interesting Facts: Cedarwood was an important timber tree in India, but has been logged out in much of its former range. Deodar is the most popular landscaping cedar in America. There are only four species of "true" cedars. Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) and cedar of Lebanon (C. libani) also are well known in cultivation, especially in the western US. This was an important tree species in north India for domestic and also for commercial appliances. Cedarwood was as good as sal and teak. Cedarwood essential oil was distilled from the waste wood and from woodcarvings in earlier periods, which was useful in relieving pains and rheumatic complaints. Cedarwood essential oil was useful for skin complaints including mange in horses in ancient times. In a 20 per cent concentration made in castor oil, it produced 100 per cent curative effect against sarcoptic mange in buffalo-calves. It was also used effectively against sarcoptic mange in dog, sheep, goat and camel.

Use: Cedarwood essential oil is beneficial in controlling odors and in respiratory infections. Cedarwood essential oil may be antiseptic, calming, and a diuretic. Cedarwood essential oil helps with urinary track infections (particularly cystitis and urethritis), hair loss, anger, nervous tension, cellulite, tuberculosis, bronchitis, acne, dandruff, catarrh, dermatitis, psoriasis and fungal infections. Cedarwood essential oil also is helpful for greasy skin, arthritis, rheumatism, congestion, coughs, sinusitis, poisoning, stress-related conditions, meditation, and clearing mental cobwebs. Cedarwood essential oil may help in adding balance and control in our lives. Cedarwood essential oil may stimulate lymph circulation, regulate nervous system and stimulate the immune system. Cedarwood essential oil may act as a sedative.
