Cervical Dysplasia; How to Avoid Surgery 4-8-08
Many women don't realize that cervical dysplasia can be an easy diagnosis
to deal with naturally. Many patients given the diagnosis of an early
stage of cervical dysplasia are told to wait and be retested by PAP smear
in 3-6 months to see if the dysplasia goes away or reverts back to
normal. My suggestion to these patients is to take action now and turn
the dysplasia back into normal cells before the next scheduled PAP test.
Dysplasia means that there is pre-cancerous change in the cells of the
cervix. Recommended testing is to go see your OB/GYN yearly for an annual
exam which includes the PAP smear test. In my office we do a lot of
reversing of cervical dysplasia which is quite easy to do under
naturopathic medical guidance. However in a wait and see stage many women
need to know what they can do on their own in the absence of seeing a
naturopathic doctor. Cervical dysplasia is very treatable via nutritional
means and with herbal/vitamin suppositories.
Here are some things to do if you are in a 'wait and see' situation.
- Folic Acid: A common deficiency in women with cervical dysplasia. Make sure you are getting plenty in your diet and as supplementation. Too much folic acid without supplementing with B12 simultaneously will lead to a b12 deficiency.
- Indole-3-Carbinol: Derived from the broccoli family. Has been shown in studies to reverse cervical dysplasia by 50% over placebo. It has also been shown to prevent cervical cancer in HPV16 positive mice. Make sure you get a quality supplement here, I3C is unstable and degrades quickly. Best to secure a high quality supplement from a doctor rather than from a health food store in this case.
- Increase consumption of Cabbage family foods. This includes cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts. This increases your natural intake of indole-3 carbinol containing foods.
- Avoid unfermented soy products. Phytoestrogens like unfermented soy products shifts your hormonal balance toward an estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance exacerbates cervical dysplasia. If you like soy, stick with only fermented soy foods like miso and tempeh where most of the isoflavones are fermented out. Also, moderation is key here.
- Douche with 3 drops of Frankincense Essential oil ( this kills cancer cells), 3 drops German Chamomile (inhibits the protein that allow cancer cells to attach to new sites within the body) every other day. Take 3 drops of each internally once a day. This formula is very aggressive and should give normal results within weeks.
- Please be checked for chronic infections. These are the most common cause of false positives or can lead to cancerous cells.
If you need more tips or have a more severe case of cervical dysplasia go seek out a qualified naturopathic physician to help you reverse your diagnosis. I've seen enough young women who have had aggressive cervical cancer that is too late for anything but oncological intervention. Along the way there could have been much done to prevent an early hysterectomy or other cancer complications. Make sure you are tested yearly, especially if you change sex partners frequently (use a condom too). Cervical cancer is very preventable, take charge now.
