Sparkling Champagne Bath Salts

Soak yourself in
absolute luxury with these opulent fizzing bath salts!
Simple and inexpensive to make, these bath salts make a great gift. This
is a perfect project for children to make in classes for fundraisers or gifts
for Mother's Day or Christmas etc..
Ingredients Needed:
- Baking Soda: This can be found in
any grocery store or bakery supply store. You will need 1/4 cup for this
recipe.
- Citric Acid: This substance is
found naturally in lemons and limes and accounts for the sour taste these
fruits have. It is often used in baking to add tartness to recipes, and is
also often used in vitamins and supplements. Citric acid can be found at
most pharmacies or bakery supply stores. At pharmacies, you will usually
need to ask the pharmacist for it since it is typically stored behind the
counter, and not on the shelves. You will need 2 tablespoons for this
recipe.
- Fine Sea Salts or Epsom Salts:
Natural sea salts and Epsom salts can usually be found at many grocery
stores, health food stores, and other health and spa specialty stores,
or gourmet specialty stores. For this recipe, a fine salt is recommended
since it will dissolve more quickly in the water, although a course salt can
be used as well. You will need 3/4 cup for this recipe.
-
Essential oils: These not only give your sparkling bath
salts their own unique scent and flavor, they also add the benefits of the
essential oil you use to your creation. You will need about 20-25 drops of your
desired essential oil or oil blend for this recipe.

include:

artemisia, sandalwood, etc..
Instructions:
-
Combine 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons citric acid in a glass bowl.
Mix together thoroughly.
-
Add 20-25 drops of your desired essential oil blend. Mix thoroughly until no
lumps remain in the mixture.
-
Add 3/4 cup of fine sea salts or Epsom salts to the mixture and blend
thoroughly.
-
Pour the salt mixture into an 8 oz. decorative glass bottle or container (or
several smaller containers) to store. The
glass bottle in the picture above was originally a
small sparkling apple-juice bottle that I washed out and re-used for this
project. The cork came from a kitchen supply store, but they can also be
found at craft stores.
-
To use these bath salts, fill a bath with warm water and pour approximately
1/4 cup of the salt mixture into the filled tub. The salts will add a
sparkling fizz as soon as they come in contact with the warm water. Give the
water a gentle stir to help disburse the salts throughout the tub, and then
get in and enjoy your naturally aromatic mineral bath! Do not ingest this
mixture.
Note: Since these bath salts contain no
artificial anti-caking agents, these bath salts may clump together a
bit while being stored—especially in humid climates. If this happens, simply
shake the bottle and the clumps should break into more of a powder again.
Extra Ideas:
-
Use a fancy font to create an elegant looking label for your container. In
the picture above, I used "Old English" font on a rich red background
color to create a 2" x 4" label that I printed on my printer using standard
"2" x 4" address labels. Be sure to include a list of ingredients and
directions on how to use the sparkling bath salts on the label as well.
-
-
Create your own "message in a bottle" by writing a personal note to someone
on a small sheet of parchment paper or vellum, rolling the note tightly and
placing it in a decorative glass bottle before filling it with bath salts.
Tie a small wooden scoop to the bottle that will hold about 1/4 cup salts in
it and attach it with raffia or ribbon to the side of the bottle.
