Interesting Facts: Clary sage seeds have a mucilaginous coat, and so old herbals recommended putting a clary sage seed into the eye of someone with a foreign object in it, to adhere to the object and make it easy to remove.
Clary sage leaves have been used as a vegetable in cookery. Clary sage was used as a flavoring in ales before the use of hops became common, and also in wine, notably muscatel. Clary sage is also used as a flavoring in some tobacco products.
Use: Clary sage essential oil has been known to be beneficial in regulating cells, hormonal imbalance, menopause problems, PMS, menstrual cramps (minimizes the pain), and itching and irritation of herpes. Clary sage essential oil is also helpful for candida outbreaks, infections, exhaustion, nerves, mental strain, hostility, strengthening the immune system, sore throat, bronchitis, cholesterol, debility, genitals, hemorrhoids, frigidity, last stages of labor (may intensify contractions), seborrhea, hair loss, scalp massage and acne (may be extremely good for skin). Clary sage essential oil is good for blood pressure, childbirth (may get contractions going), antispasmodic (may soothe asthma attacks), sedative, claustrophobia, hyperactivity, and nightmares.
