Interesting Facts: The name dill is probably related to Old Norse dilla “calm”, “soothe”; it has been suggested that dill was used to relieve stomach pain in babies (due to its ant flatulent power) and thereby “soothed” them.

Dill has long been cultivated as a herb throughout Europe and north Africa as well as in its native Asia. It was used by Egyptian doctors 5000 years ago and traces have been found in Roman ruins in Great Britain. In the Middle Ages it was thought to protect against witchcraft.

In Semitic languages it is known by the name of Shubit. The Talmud requires that tithes shall paid on the seeds, leaves, and stem of dill. The Bible reports that the Pharisees were in the habit of paying this tithe; Jesus rebuked them for tithing dill but omitting mercy.

Use: Dill seed essential oil may lower glucose levels by normalizing insulin levels and supporting pancreatic function. Dill seed essential oil helps with bronchial catarrh, congestion, liver deficiencies, colic, hiccups, dry heaves, and vomiting. Dill seed essential oil  is the main ingredient in gripping water. Dill seed essential oil is beneficial for indigestion and promotes milk flow in nursing mothers. Antibacterial, Anti-catarrh, antispasmodic, anticoagulant (blood thinner). Dill seed essential oil may aid in coronary thrombosis risk, parasites, lack of strength, and antiseptic.
