Easy Substitutions For Healthier Living Updated 9-14-2011
These suggestions are listed from most healthy to acceptable. Don’t try to change foods all at once. For instance I changed from regular spaghetti noodles to rice noodles and then months later to spaghetti squash. This way you don’t have any family revolts. If your current selection is not listed, you shouldn’t be using it! It should go without saying get organic if you can. NOTE: USDA organic is not really organic! Make sure your foods are certified by QAI or Oregon Tilth. They are the most reliable.
I am often told "eating healthy is to expensive". With adjustments it is the same or less expensive. You save a lot of money not using chemicals to clean. Also Walmart, Sam's and Costco now carry some organic products like Muir Glen and Cascadian Farm. Look around at your favorite stores each time you are there, stock changes almost daily.

Cereal: Don’t eat it! Make smoothies, eggs, leftovers, Rice based if you must have it,
Potatoes: Make Fauxtatoes (cauliflower, cream, sea salt and pepper), sweet potatoes/ yams, organic potatoes
Brown Sugar, molasses, Succanat, stevia and molasses
Soda/Kool-Aid etc..: Fruit flavored tea and stevia, Celestial Seasons instant Tea Zingers, Stevia sweetened instant drink mixes like Hanson or Crystal Light (PURE only) Juice raw fruits like lemons and use stevia or grade b maple syrup. If you must drink Kool-Aid get the new clear kind and sweeten with stevia. Tip: Buy Sparkling water and add 2 packets of Celestial Seasons instant Tea Zingers for a great tasting natural soda or add organic juice concentrate or flavored stevia
Tap Water: ionized, distilled, reverse osmosis, Brita Filtered or other NSF standards 42 and 53 filter
Milk: raw organic goats or cow milk, almond milk (Don’t drink gluten grain based or soy) rice, Pasteurized organic nonfat.
Oil: Coconut, Olive, Avocado, Peanut, Safflower, almond, walnut, truffle, sesame. Do not use canola or Enova (vegetable oil is soy)
Condiments: Braggs Amino's, organic versions of your favorites, Safflower Mayo (If you can’t make home made olive), olive oil mayo, make your own dressings

Makeup: Larenim, Body Shop Minerals, Eco Bella, Gabriel, (Bare Escentuals has bad ingredients) mix minerals eye shadow colors with aloe gel for liquid eyeliner or liquid to powder eye shadow or mascara. Mix mineral foundation with your favorite facial moisturizer for liquid foundation. If you face is ruddy (red) ad a little green eye shadow to you foundation.
Hair Dye: Henna, Naturcolor, Clairol Natural Instincts, Natural Brands (most have horrible ingredients)

Baby Bottles: Glass with rubber or vinyl (clear) nipples
Medicated Body/Foot Powder: In a small shaker jar; mix yucca, kudzu, or tapioca starch with 5-6 drops of Purifying Essential Oil
Eye Makeup Remover: natural brand without parabens, propylene glycol (or any glycols) or sls. Neutrogena
Diapers: Cloth using laundry ball and peroxide bleach (sun oxy or non toxic green brand) and borax, never use chlorine bleach, Seventh Generation, Huggies Green, or other bleach free bio-degradable disposable.
Baby Wipes: Make your own or Seventh Generation, other biodegradable perfume free chemical free brand
Cleaning:
A Good Quality Steamer cleans everything! And Micro fiber often clean with just water!
Dish Soap: Seventh Generation, Other Chemical Free or organic
Automatic Dish Soap: Pure and Gentle, Seventh Generation Dish Packs, other natural, Make your own with 1/2 Borax, 1/2 Washing Soda and and 1 scoop Oxygen bleach
Jet Dry/ Rinse Agent: Ecover, Fill the reservoir with vinegar
Laundry Soap: Laundry Ball, Pure and Gentle, other natural, Quixstar sa8,
Oxy Bleach: ( Oxygen Bleach or Peroxide Bleach): Sun Oxy or Target Brand (Oxy Clean contains fillers perfumes, all natural brands are to expensive and the same thing as sun oxy) Food Grade Peroxide, Borax or Washing Soda
Softener: You won’t need it with the laundry ball, Seventh Generation, other Natural, 1/2 C Vinegar in wash softens amazingly,
Carpet Shampoo: Citrasolve, Woolite Oxy, other natural
Mopping: Steamer, Citrasolve, other natural, Murphy’s oil soap, I use a Clorox mop but use micro fiber instead of their refills and I use vinegar and water in the cleaning solution bottle add a drop or 2 of your favorite Bella Mira Essential Oil for scent or disinfection.
Wood Floor Polish/ Cleaner: add 1/2 bottle of Bella Mira Lemon Oil to any recipe for amazing results!
Recipe #1: 3 parts olive oil, 1 part vinegar
Recipe #2: 1 part lemon juice, 2 parts olive or vegetable oil
Recipe #3: Make a mixture of 2 tablespoons olive oil, 4 tablespoons white
vinegar, and 1 quart warm water. Apply with a soft cloth and dry with a
separate, clean cloth.
All Purpose Spray: Citraspot, Home made
Window Cleaner: Chem. Free Window Cleaner, Steamer, Vinegar and Water
Disinfectant/ Deodorizing Spray: Vinegar and water (50% each) with 20 drops Purifying, Marauder, Nightingale, or other disinfecting Bella Mira Essential Oil, Natural Brands, Sun Oxy ,
Febreeze/Air Freshener: Diffuser, Vinegar and water (50% each) with 20 drops of your favorite Bella Mira Essential Oil. Spray into the air as needed, natural brand, citrus sprays
Febreeze Allergy Reducer: In a 16 oz spray bottle soak 2 white tea bags for 24 hours then remove. The tannins in the tea reduce allergens and because it is clear it will not stain fabrics. This is also unscented!
Febreeze Noticeables/Plug-ins: Dump out the old perfume and rinse with vinegar, then refill with the Bella Mira Essential Oil of your choice. I used Spruce and Christmas Moments in a Febreeze Noticeables for the Holiday Season. It was amazing!
Candles: Diffuser, or soy wax, bees wax, non lead cloth or bamboo wick, oil burners can be used if you only want strong smell and no medicinal benefits. You can also drop a drop of your favorite Bella Mira Essential Oil right on your lamp bulb for instant room freshening.
Oil Lamps: Olive oil , make your own, you can add your favorite essential oils to fractionated coconut oil, reuse cooking oils, reuse perfume bottles, soda bottles, wine bottles, etc
Bleach: DON’T USE
Mold Cleaner: Baking Soda with vinegar, water and Bella Mira Essential Oils, Woolite Oxy Spray ( Best Mold Detector Around! it will foam on live active mold)
Daily Shower Cleaner:
1/4 cup concentrated cleaner ( Something like Lysol but safe) (I Like Mrs.
Myers Refill)
1/2 cup isopropyl alcohol
Optional 5-10 drops
Nightingale, Purifying or other Anti Microbial

Pour cleaner and alcohol into quart spray bottle. Add enough water to fill. Thoroughly clean shower before using. Spray on shower daily. Use daily to prevent water deposits and soap scum.
Soft Scrub: Shower /Tile Scrub:
No Fail, Super Strong- Recipe #1: Make a paste of fresh cut lemons or lemon juice and baking soda spread this all over the shower and let sit for a couple of minutes then wipe around and rinse. No scrubbing Necessary.
Recipe #2: (This can be stored) Mix Together, Keep in shaker or airtight jar, When mixed with water becomes above mixture.

No Fail, Super Strong- Recipe #1: Make a paste of fresh cut lemons or lemon juice and baking soda spread this all over the grill, engine, grimy nasty anything, and let sit until you can wipe it off easily, then wipe around and rinse. No scrubbing Necessary.
