Interesting Facts: Galbanum is one of the oldest of drugs. In the Book of Exodus 30:34, it is mentioned as a sweet spice, to be used in the making of a perfume for the tabernacle. Hippocrates employed galbanum in medicine, and Pliny ascribes to galbanum extraordinary curative powers, concluding his account of galbanum with the assertion that "the very touch of it mixed with oil of spondylium is sufficient to kill a serpent." The drug is occasionally given in modern medicine, in doses of from five to fifteen grains.

Galbanum essential oil was used by the Egyptians to anoint the forehead of the future Osiris, or burned as incense (the green incense referred to in ancient Egyptian texts) and as a cosmetic.

In antiquity, galbanums rather acrid smoke was long employed to keep snakes and insects away. It is still used for this purpose in Coptic medicine.

Use: Galbanum essential oil has been beneficial for abscesses, acne, boils, cuts, anti-viral, anti-microbial, antiseptic, analgesic, may heal scar tissue, inflammations, wrinkles, tones skin, mature skin, circulation, asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, chronic coughs, rheumatism, muscular aches and pains, cramps, indigestion, nervous tension, diuretic, restorative, tonic. Galbanum essential oil may strengthen and support the whole system. Galbanum essential oil alone its frequency is low, but when combined with oils, such as Frankincense or Sandalwood, the frequency changes drastically.
