As winter
grudgingly grinds to a close and spring begins knocking at the door, welcome
the new season
with your favorite springtime scent! These easy-to-make spritzers can be used
to scent the air, to freshen up
sheets and curtains, and in many other ways!
Materials Needed:
- Alcohol: If you are making these
sprays for personal use, you can simply use a pure grain alcohol (like Blue
Sky vodka ( my fav. for this or everclear) for this recipe. For this recipe
you will need 1 liquid oz. (2 tablespoons).
- Distilled Water: For this recipe,
you will need about 2 cups (16 oz.) of water.
- Misting Spray Bottles: This
recipe will make about 16 oz. of linen spray. You can divide that into four
4
oz. spray bottles, eight 2 oz. spray bottles, or sixteen 1 oz. spray
bottles.
- Essential oils: Pick your
favorite spring-time oil or blend to use in these spritzers. Some oils that
connote the light, airy scents found in spring include
cardamom,
citronella, coriander, eucalyptus, geranium, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine,
lemon, lemongrass, palmarosa, peppermint, rose, spearmint, & ylang ylang.
You will need about 12-18 drops of your desired essential oil or oil
blend for this recipe.
* Blends that are great themselves are:
Christmas
Moments, Jubilee, Orange Cream (add
Lavender for an awesome smell)
Marigold
(Tagetes) and
Orange together smell like a delicious fruit punch,
Fresh Citrus,
Fortitude, Youthful, Heart of the Forest, Reassess, etc...
Instructions:
-
In a glass container large enough to hold at least 2 cups, mix 1 oz. (2
tablespoons) of alcohol with 12-18 drops of your desired essential oil or
blend. Allow this mixture to sit for at least 15-30 minutes to allow time
for the oils to dissolve into the alcohol.
-
Add 2 cups of distilled water to the oil mixture and blend thoroughly.
-
Transfer the mixture into your desired spray bottles. Normally, when
essential oils are used by themselves or with water in a spray bottle, it
is possible for the essential oils to clog the spraying mechanism.
However, in this recipe, since the oils are dissolved into the alcohol,
that is usually not a problem with most oils.
-
To use your spritzers, shake the bottle before use and spray 1-3 times
into the air, or onto your sheets, curtains, blankets, or other linens and
household items. Use more or less spray as desired. Be careful not to
spray towards people, especially into the eyes as the alcohol can cause
stinging.
Extra Ideas:
-
Create labels for your sprays to give them a unique personality.
-
Create several different aromas and create a gift-basket with one of each
"flavor".
