Nestlé Pure Life Purified Water Recall 6-25-08
Nestlé Pure Life announced
that the company is recalling the one-gallon Nestlé Pure Life Purified Drinking
Water.
The recalled product is sold ONLY in Shop-Rite stores in the five Northeast
states of Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for
unstated reasons.
Only fewer than 150 one-gallon bottles of Nestlé Pure Life Purified Water are
subject to the recall.
The product was produced in a short timeframe on May 5, 2008 between 8:00 AM and
9:00 AM, according to the company recall statement.
The product of concern carries a date code as follows printed on the shoulder of
one-gallon bottles.
First line…………050508126WF024
Second line……... Starts with the numbers "08"
For example: 0801BB05/2010
What triggers the recall is that the product was found to contain a diluted form
of a common food grade cleaning chemical, which results in a bitter or sour
taste.
If ingested in a large amount, this chemical can cause health hazard. The
recalled product should not be consumed or used in preparing infant formulas or
other foods or beverages.
No injury was reported associated with the recalled product.
Shop-Rite, as of Monday, June 23rd, has already removed any remaining affected
product from their stores and warehouses.
Concerned consumers may contact the company at a toll free number 866-599-8980
available 24 hours a day. This same number is also printed on the labels of the
recalled product.

Nestle Pure Life Pro's:
New Eco-Shape Bottle uses 30% less plastic than normal bottles of that size
Once water is collected from the source, microbiological and general chemistry
testing is carefully performed daily.
Chlorine and disinfection by-product contaminants are removed if present and
water hardness is reduced in specific filtration processes that's monitored and
tested daily.
Water is demineralized through a process that involves reverse osmosis or
distillation.
Demineralized water is then stored in storage tanks, and the storage environment
is carefully monitored on a daily basis to avoid microbiological contamination.
Minerals are added to give our Nestlé Pure Life products a unique taste.
Water is filtered with specialized, advanced micro-filters, specifically
designed for this process. These filters are pharmaceutical grade, and are
designed to remove particles as small as 0.2 micron in diameter.
Micro-filtration is capable of removing microbiological contaminants - This
process is monitored hourly and tested daily.
The combined effects of micro-filtration, ultra-violet light and ozonation
provide assurance of product disinfection and safety. This process is also
monitored hourly and tested daily.
Bottling is conducted under highly controlled and sanitary conditions using
state-of-the-art equipment. Each bottle is given a specific code that
establishes the plant location, bottling line, and time produced. This process
is monitored and tested continuously.
