Nutri-Foods recalls "Organic Sesame Seeds Natural - Unhulled"
By Ben Wasserman
Feb 16, 2008 - 11:35:21 AM

The recalled product in a 0.50 pound clear plastic package was sold at Nutri-Foods from Dec. 15 through Jan 28, according to the FDA. The product comes with a product SKU #170 at the top and "packed" date December 28.
No cases of illness have been reported to date associated with consumption of the recalled Organic Sesame Seeds, the FDA says.

Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and manufacturer are investigating the Salmonella contamination.

Consumers are urged to return the product to Nutri-Foods for a refund. They can call Nutri-Foods at 248 541-6820 asking for John B. or Judy if they have any questions.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

In rare cases, Salmonella can get into the bloodstream, producing severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
